RAYMOND HOSE COMPANY
Raymond Hose Company was organized on December 26, 1896 with 35 members. On February 5, 1897 the Village Board recognized the Raymonds and they became the third fire company in the Village of Warwick. Located in the western end of the Village, it provided fire protection to a largely residential section of the Village
.The first meetings were held at the Fabric Hose Company buildings on Factory Street. Mr. Thomas A. Raymond, President of the Fabric Hose Company, was very active in the organization of the Company, and for his efforts the members voted to name the company after him. The Fabric Hose Company moved from Warwick to the State of Connecticut and still manufactures fire hose. Our next home was built on 7 Howe Street in 1901. We have recently built a new fire station on 200 West Street, approximately one mile from our old location.
The first apparatus purchased by the Raymonds was a jumper. The jumper was purchased on April 12, 1897. This jumper can be seen today in our fire house on 200 Howe Street. Our second piece of apparatus was purchased by the Village on March 3, 1901. This was of the parade-carriage type hose cart and remained in service until July 7, 1918, when the Company purchased a Ford truck for $800 and equipped it with hose, ladder and other fire supplies.Our next purchase was a 1924 Reo Speed Wagon with a one ton truck chassis upon which was mounted a Childs Foamite body.
The first pumper used by the company was a 1936 Sanford 500 G.P.M. Pumper, which has recently been restored by the members. The Sanford was replaced in 1954 by a Mack “85” 750 G.P.M. Pumper. This piece of apparatus is presently being restored by the members.On April 17, 1971 the Mack was replaced by a Seagrave 1000 G.P.M. Pumper. On October 6, 1991, the Seagrave was replaced by a Four Guys 1500 G.P.M. Pumper. After 107 years of service, the Raymond Hose Company No. 2 is still serving the Warwick Fire Department and will, continue to do so in the future. The Raymond’s Fire house is located on 200 West Street.
During the many years of fire service in the Warwick Fire Department, the Raymond Hose Company has been a member of O.C.V.F.A., the H.V.V.F.A. and the N.Y.S.V.F.A. The Raymonds have worked hard through the years to support projects sponsored by the Village and Town of Warwick and many Orange County organizations. As a member of Battalion 6 of the County Mutual Aid System, they have provided support and leadership through the years.
